European corporations play a major part in the global economy, and many have a presence in the USA or actively compete with US businesses. Some are global players and household names. This session will focus on finding information on European business concentrating on finding company information, and understanding differences between the various European countries as well as Europe and the USA.
The workshop will cover:
- The political and economic structure of Europe and its impact on business, highlighting the Eurozone countries, the European Ecomomic Area States and the countries outside the EEA;
- Types of corporation – and what you can expect to find;
- Information sources for company financials – and how to find these;
- Stock market data;
- Cultural differences and how this can impact corporate structure;
- News sources;
- And more.
Examples will be practical – showing the types of information that can be easily found as well as some of the harder to find information that requires a more in-depth understanding of each market.
Benefits for AttendeesAttendees will:
- Gain an understanding of what is meant by “Europe” – beyond the basic geography. The inter-relationships between the Eurozone, the European Union, the European Economic Area and other groups will be covered, giving attendees an ability to interpret news stories on Europe and its impact globally.
- Understand the different types of corporations within Europe – whether GmbH, Ltd, PLC, SA and what these are.
- Discover how businesses operate within Europe – why some have a “supervisory board” and what this is, and why others don’t; why German financials can be limited; why Swiss financials may be non-existent but detailed UK financials available on even small privately held companies.
- Find out about some of the cultural differences between European countries and how this impacts business practice – whether in business organisational structure or how long to expect somebody to be on their lunch break.
- Learn sources for European business information including leading news sources; sources for company finances; anti-trust information sources; other public data sources, etc.
The workshop should be of interest to anybody who wants to understand more about business in Europe and will help any IIP who needs to do research covering any aspect of European business.
